Leah has recently returned to the Carl Small Town Center as the Assistant Director, a role she previously held prior to moving to Nashville. She also teaches an online course within the College of Architecture, Art and Design at Mississippi State University, where she has taught both design and lecture courses. Kemp earned a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from Virginia Tech. She then practiced interior design in Washington, DC, where she worked primarily on large-scale commercial projects. One such project, E-Sync, Networks, received the Washington, DC Chapters AIA Interior Architecture Merit Award in 2002.

Kemp also earned a Master of Architecture from Tulane University, receiving a commendation for her Masters Thesis: Re-connecting New Orleans to the Mississippi River. While at Tulane, Kemp was awarded the Lawrence Travel Fellowship to pursue self-directed study and public presentation of architect Alvaro Sizas work in Portugal and Spain.

Leah is interested in urban design at both the scale of the city and the small town and has had the opportunity to explore this pursuit while working at the New Orleans City Planning Commission and in small towns across the state of Mississippi while working at the Carl Small Town Center. In 2005, she received the MSU College of Architecture, Art and Designs Research Support Award for her community planning work in the town of Laurel, MS.
